We know. Life has so many questions for us. Some we may eventually find answers to and some we may never be able to answer. In our first blog (Welcome to Stanicus.com) we mentioned that a famous poet once said to ‘live the questions ‘. Like children, we should never stop asking, WHY?
The DPL wanted to go back and reflect on that very first blog , on this , why, phenomenon.
WHY? WHY? WHY?
When we were children we were always curious. Ready to soak up the world like a sponge. We sometimes asked, ‘ why ‘ to the point of ad nauseam ; exhausting our poor parents who eventually ran out of answers for some of the questions. Then some of us became parents. It was our turn. And although we were able to superficially explain some things, like our parents, there were some questions we just couldn’t answer.
Sometimes all of the ‘why-ing’ led to parental burn-out. ” Why don’t you know? ” And you think to yourself, we love this kid but right now this kid is driving us crazy. Then all of a sudden an ice cream place miraculously appears. What a wonderful distraction! Now it’s our turn to ask a question. ” Want an ice cream cone? ”
Many great discoveries and inventions happened because people were not afraid to ask, why. Then they made the declaration which led to a dedication, a commitment, ‘why not?’
What is your WHY? Why do you want to be a poet? Why do you want to write? Why haven’t you been writing? What is blocking you from writing? Don’t be afraid to ask yourself questions. Your why(s) may lead to other why(s). Why do I feel this way? Why do I feel that way? Why this? Why that? You may not always have an answer. There may not even be one. So don’t get stuck on too much ‘why-ing.’ And remember, don’t ask yourself or anyone else a question if you’re not prepared or patient enough to hear the answer; and it may not always be the one you want to hear.
WHY? WHY? WHY?
Once you’re done why-ing, it’s time for ACTION. Time to make a commitment to PUT the PEN to PAPER. If you’re stuck start with a few key words. Take a few breaths, easy does it. Let your thoughts incubate. Don’t be in a hurry. Be patient with yourself. You may be surprised at what happens. More will be revealed as it becomes available. It will come. Just RELAX.
Some of you might ask ‘why’ the DPL didn’t put any pictures in this blog like the others. Our answer…we don’t know…we just didn’t.
