Writing poetry is like breathing. Do you at times hold your breath? Take shallow breaths? How much are you aware of your surroundings? While you’re reading this are you breathing deeply? Standing?.Sitting? Eating? Please don’t tell me you’re watching the news. Anything but the NEWS! We don’t want any outside negative influences while you’re on this journey. Okay. Back to the questions. Are you the type of person that make yourself fit in or do you get in where you fit in? Are you capable of doing both? Have you ever done both? Do you find that sometimes your mind does gymnastics? Join the club.I know so many questions, right? Questions that we may or may not have the answers . Perhaps the answers are not as important as the questions. I don’t know. It is okay, not to know. Admitting we don’t know means there is room for growth. It means we are not full of ourselves. A famous poet once said ‘ don’t live the answers, live the questions’.
Why? Why? Why? So many , Y’s. But it’s okay. We writers are like children in many ways. But when you finally answer, ‘why not’ , now you’re on to something big. Ready to write that poem or does the poem write us. You know, the whole chicken or the egg thing. Which came first, who cares. Let it go, let it go, then you can let it flow. Give yourself to yourself. Be your own gift that keeps on giving .Go ahead give yourself permission. The DPL has your back. So WRITE! Drive that pen or pencil right over that blank piece of paper. Remember, we’re always with you in the passenger seat. Oh and by the way, while you’re driving, don’t forget to pull over and take in the scenery. Take a moment, catch your breath.I’m sorry. I don’t want to put any additional pressure on you but I sure hope we don’t have to drive much farther down these winding roads to find a bathroom.
