It would be great if we could have more time. TIME. More time to make more money, more time to spend it,  more vacation time, more time to make amends, more time to love and help others. Time. More personal time to do some of the things we want to do instead of always doing what we feel we have to do. There are always constant demands on our time. Do not be dismayed. You’re not alone. This is our human experience. We are always looking for ways to juggle TIME. We do our best to slice that twenty-four hour pie into as may pieces as we can. Our various situations (much of the time dictate) how many slices or how big of a slice we give. THANK-YOU can I have ANOTHER.

Some days we may feel among the down trodden because we have given all of our slices away and left with crumbs. Then there are days when we become hungry guardians of our time And  there are some who may think we are being stingy and selfish. Doing their best to wrap us up in a blanket of guilt because we did not share or give them our TIME. Then comes the time when we have to go night night. Let us not forget about sleep. We must sleep. We must get sufficient rest. Which requires about a third of that pie.

Some of us are great procrastinators because we feel time will always be on our side. That’s the big contradiction. On one hand we know we are not guaranteed a tomorrow, yet we take it for granted that we will be here tomorrow to finish what we left undone today. Some of us are so busy trying to do and finish everything in a day. Many of us have heard over the years, ‘Rome wasn’t built in a day’ and ‘tomorrow is always a day away.’ So where does that leave us?  Juggling and doing a balancing act.

Time is a continuum. It keeps on going whether we do or not. An interesting thing happens when we no longer fight or race against time; we change our perception of it. It is no longer the enemy. We become one with it. We  respect it but we are not totally ruled by it. We use it wisely and do not squander it on senseless things.

The DPL challenges you. As an exercise find and listen to songs about time, write a poem about time. Set up a place in your house or apartment to write. You say you don’t have the time? Make the time and take the time. When you do this you will be surprised.

You will  not only have more time to write but more time to give to others. You will get the most out of your day. We can never conquer time.  Once it’s gone, it’s gone.  All the would haves, could haves and should haves will not bring it back.  As it has also been said, ‘yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery and today is a precious gift, that’s why it’s called the PRESENT.’  In order to appreciate our ‘ present ‘ we can learn to effectively manage it.

Remember, it’s a matter of perception and sometimes perception precedes reality. Meaning, some days may seem longer or shorter than others but the reality is that all of us get the same twenty-four hours a day seven days a week. So if we manage our time wisely it may seem like our days are longer and if we don’t, days could seem shorter. But no matter how we look at it…..

So turn on some music. Let’s DANCE and CELEBRATE our new friend, TIME.  As long as we respect it and use it wisely, it will be on our side. Please don’t tell us you’re too shy or you don’t have rhythm. The fact that you’re reading this means you have a heartbeat. And if you have a heartbeat, you have rhythm.
