The DPL is not political. We do not get into the nasty US vs Them arena of politics. However, we have been known to (in our own way) shine a light on the dark injustices of humanity, as we did in our piece, What’s going On?, published in June 2020, whereby we discussed police brutality in the murder of George Floyd.
Yes. We did borrow this title from a cowboy western starring Clint Eastwood but we’re not talking about cowboys here. We’re referring to a modern day Attila the Hun who has decided (against the will of most of his own people) to invade the country of Ukraine. A country whose people do not want them there and are independent of Russia.
In my heart, I know, my wife and I would still care, even if we didn’t actually know people who live in Ukraine. Back in October 2018 we were waiting for our flight at the airport in Barcelona, Spain. A couple sat next to us, Oleg and Natilie, a nice couple from Ukraine. We talked for more than an hour and although they struggled with some English words, we were so impressed that they were still eager to talk to us although we were Americans who didn’t speak Ukraine.
Before we parted ways we exchanged emails and when we got back home we kept in contact through Instagram. We shared pictures of our respective families (they have a young son), food, travels and the good times that most have a desire to share. Remove our language and cultural differences and we may find that we are more alike than we are different. Are there any superior human beings that do not need food, air, clothing, shelter and water?
I corresponded with Oleg two days ago. He lives west of the city of Liviv. I told him that my wife and I are praying for the safety of his family and all Ukraine people. He informed me that he like many others are willing to fight against this invasion.
Dictators and criminals don’t care or play by the rules. They feel that rules don’t apply to them. If someone were to break into your house that would be an invasion. This person obviously would have an exaggerated sense of entitlement. IT’S YOUR HOUSE NOT THEIRS. You certainly wouldn’t ask them to sit down for a cup of tea.
THE GOOD: anyone who not only despises injustice, inhumanity, violence, hatred and oppression; but also speaks out against it. And anyone who does his/her best to promote peace, love and harmony.
THE BAD: anyone who inflicts or perpetrates such above mentioned behavior, also anyone who is the orchestrator of confusion and chaos.
THE UGLY: anyone who vocally, silently supports or encourages ( promotes)the above mentioned behavior.
Human beings are not perfect. Perhaps there was a time when some of us may have felt or experienced, THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY. Life is not always black and white. There are many grey areas. But if you had to choose, JUST FOR TODAY ; which one do you IDENTIFY with?
